Think I was too harsh? Left out some scenarios? Have war stories and triumphs to share about nonprofit leadership and management? Hit me.
Now that my book has gone live today (yay!), this blog is where we'll continue that conversation together.

I wanted to be the first to reply and say how much I enjoyed reading your book. It was quick, powerful and to the point. Scenarios I'd like to see you or other commenters explore include when members create a subset of the group like a sig, but don't want any input from the board and they go off charter. Another one is when they want to offer services and be paid for them under the association's umbrella.

I just read your book and LOVE it! I've been on non profit boards for 40 years in the LA area and this is going to be my pocket bible from now on.

Kick ass book is right. I found myself nodding or talking out loud in my office. Thanks for the Dr. Phil reality check!

You are one scary smart and witty woman. Thanks for writing this excellent book. I know the first person who's getting a copy this week.

Another scenario comes to mind - death by a thousand small thinkers. Like the death of a thousand cuts, dealing with people over and over again - sometimes a rotating cast where a few may feature prominently. At issue is that you can barely get them out of their collective foxholes long enough to look around and see the big picture. An infernal small mindedness can drive a results oriented performer batty. No strategic thinkers in the lot, just a preservation focused self-interest, repeating what is to them their safe patterns. Very difficult to engage even when you draw the line for them for the connections of mutual benefit and complimentary missions.
